Last we had shared our conversation with Kalyani Khona, founder of Wanted Umbrella, she talked to us about her plans to develop her product. The 22 year old Kalyani is crowdfunding to raise money for the development of app – Loveability, which will enable people with physical disability to find love.
“We are working on a matchmaking mobile app – loveability which will match people with disabilities on the basis of medical condition, information on cure, instruments used and level of independence at home or work”, she says explaining Loveability.
India is home to 12 million people with visual impairment, of which 50% are educated individuals. “A lot of them cannot use existing dating apps like Tinder because the judgement is based on the pictures, which cannot be detected by screen-readers. Our app will be accessible through screen readers”, points Kalyani.
Kalyani’s research on 300 interviewees with physical disability pointed to the fact that 60% of them spent more time on internet because of physical limitations to access cafes or cinema houses. “Our country has negligible infrastructure for people with physical disability”, she says.
Kalyani has been pulling off Wanted Umbrella using her past savings for more than a year.
“We’ve exhausted our money building on research modules and finding solutions to matchmaking. We need money to develop a beta version of our app”, she adds. Loveability’s target is to raise 5 lakh in next 54 days of which it has successfully raised 1 lakh 85 thousand so far.
